The week just before the walk opens I get stressed... shhhhhh don't tell Sandy- but it is a lot of work! She is the one who recruited us and she says no one can do it if they are stressed- it is not suppose to stress anyone out- it is just for FUN etc... well that's nice of her to say and all but I do, get a little stressed and I usually end up saying ... "next year I am only doing ONE thing and all I am going to do is make that ONE thing and deliver it... that's it! I am not going to worry about how my ONE thing looks and the whole set up- I am just going to do the minimum blah blah blah"... Well every year although I feel stress, I just can't do it- I get started and I can't stop! There is something so magical about the pumpkin walk. It is challenging and there is this sense of accomplishment in turning stuff from the garden into animals and people and stories... I LOVE it! It is such a great creative outlet! the first year we started helping I remember Sandy holding up gourds and turning them in her hand saying this would make the perfect duck or turtle and she'd find leaves for ears and corn cobs for horns.... cat tails for hair...she could just look at produce and get a vision- I thought she was crazy... but now I am getting the crazy too!... I looked at a squash this year and thought that is the prefect head for Melman the giraffe... and it was! It is just so addicting and FUN. I am so glad that we get to be a part of it- Glen came every day after work and rigged stuff up and built crates and painted and painted and painted.... so did the boys - I picked them up after school and we headed over to work on the scene...they love it! I am so glad that my mom was able to babysit the littles so that we could help again this year.
... here is our Madagascar creation...
One half of the scene was the city... at the zoo and then the other half was in Madagascar. In the zoo above is Alex the lion, Marty on his treadmill and the penguins (my favorite!)
Over in Madagascar there was ... the statue of Gloria (that they built on the movie), King Julian and his sidekicks, Melman, the little old MEAN lady with her purse, and the monkeys
I signed up to make the monkeys , they were my ONE thing
but I told you how that goes...
Pretty cute if you ask me and it was about 100 times better in real life! It was a lot of work this year, we were sort of short handed... but there is nothing better to do mid October....want to help next year?
Let us know...We will be there!
